However, adding a composite deck sealer once every few years will simply add an extra layer of protection that makes it even easier to keep your deck clean and free of damage.
If you choose to seal your composite deck, it is best to use a water-based sealer made for composite decks. Do not just use a sealer for regular wood decks, as it could do more harm than good.
How to Maintain a Composite Deck
Cleaning
The best way to maintain your composite deck is to clean it. Keeping your composite deck clean will prevent set-in stains, mold growth, and related deterioration. How can you keep your composite deck clean?
First, sweep it off routinely as needed. Brushing off the dead leaves, twigs, and dirt is the first natural step.
Next, remove all items off your deck. That way, you will be able to clean the surface thoroughly.
Finally, you can choose to either scrub the deck with a long, stiff-bristled brush and warm, soapy water or with a pressure washer. Be sure to use a proper composite deck detergent and keep the pressure washer setting low enough.
Repairing
Composite decks can scratch over time. Fixing scratches is easy with a composite deck repair kit. Other kinds of repairs include fixing loose screws, nails, or fasteners.
