Mixing Fence Styles: New Fence Installation

Mixing Fence Styles: New Fence Installation

One fence, multiple styles: check out our newest fence installation project!

A new fence ultimately serves the purpose of providing border security, but it can be more nuanced. There may be a need for privacy, visibility, aesthetics, and more. You might think that you have to choose only one fence style for your project, but actually you can select more than one, customizing the fence to suit your border needs. Recently, Mid-Atlantic Deck & Fence installed a new fence that shows just how mixing fence styles can be done. See these tips and our recent project below to get inspired!

Tips for Mixing Fence Styles

Functions

Different fence styles have different functions. Some provide higher or lower levels of border security, and some give more or less privacy. Some kinds will also allow for ventilation, while other forms are solid. Determine whether you want to block or preserve views on different sides of the house to know which fence style is fit for each backyard section.

Materials

It is also possible to mix fence materials. Wood provides decent security, but composite and vinyl are even more durable. Aluminum and steel fences are the epitomai of security fencing. As you decide what the purpose of your fence sections are, you can decide the material and the style together for the best result.

Transitions

With different fence styles and materials, you’ll want to consider how each will transition to the other. The transition from one fence type to another usually happens at a corner or angle of the property. The meeting points can also happen between structural elements, such as a backyard shed sitting along the property line. It may also help to have a similar look between fence styles and materials to make the whole design more seamless.

A New MAD Fence Installation

Mid-Atlantic Deck & Fence recently completed a brand new vinyl fence installation that is an excellent example of mixing fence styles together. This fence uses three different styles, two colors, and one material (vinyl.)

With gates on either side of the house, the first style is a lattice top privacy fence called the Stonington. Along the sides of the property is a solid privacy fence called the Chesterfield. Both of these fence styles have a white frame and a gray slat filler. The third style is our Mt. Vernan picket fence with dog-eared picket caps in all white.
