Given the title of this blog post, the answer is no. There are at least three types of privacy fences that you should be aware of in your search for the perfect privacy fence.
3 Types of Privacy Fences
Side-by-Side
A side-by-side privacy fence lines up its vertical pickets together to create one solid fence panel. On the other side of the fence are the horizontal boards that hold them together and connect them to each fence post. The smooth side of the fence faces outward so that the property looks best from the outside. This positioning also makes it much harder for anyone to climb over it.
Board-on-Board
Board-on-board privacy fences have pickets that overlap in an alternate pattern. The horizontal boards remain on one side of the fence. When the boards overlap slightly, the design maintains property privacy even when the pickets shrink. You also get more texture and visual interest with your fence. The downside is that you will need more materials to create it than a side-by-side fence, increasing the cost.
Shadow Box
A shadow box privacy fence looks great on both sides. The pickets overlap in an alternating pattern, but the pickets also alternate on either side of the horizontal boards that hold them together. You will see small gaps from an angle, but these gaps are extremely minimal.
